Soil Prep
Before you get to planting, it can help to prepare the soil with:
Cultivators, which can grind up weeds and other plants to help enrich the soil, or which can weed your field after planting
Cultipackers, which are like cultivators but also crush up packed earth to help smooth out the seed bed, then which gently embeds the seeds into that soil
Harrows, which can distribute or level out the earth and crop residue or which can kill weeds
Plows, which are used to turn and loosen the soil and come in a variety of shapes and sizes
Planting
Now that the soil’s ready, it’s time to plant your crops with:
Seed drills, which allow you to insert seeds into the soil without disturbing it, making them perfect for row crops, cover crops, and grasses
Transplanters, which require people to ride along and act like manual seed drills, allowing people to plant seeds without bending over
Broadcast seeders, which throw seeds out across a set area, making them better for cover crops and grasses than anything else
Harvest
Finally, once everything is grown and ripe, it’s time to harvest your crops with:
Combine harvesters, or combines, which are reapers, threshers, and winnowers all in one
Swathers or windrowers, which cut crops and them place them in neat windrows to help them dry out
